World elephant Day …… how desperate do our largest land mammals need this DAY! Their peaceful existence is in the very fragile hands of humans. Some people might not want to hear this.. Due to loss of habitat and fragmentation, fences and management plans, blocking of historical migration routes and no financial value, their majestic presence has become a burden worldwide.
WORLD RHINO DAY 2025
For World Rhino Day 2025, we are telling a story about one of the rhinos on our reserve.
Our reserve has the privilege to have partnered with the WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion Project. For more insight into the project and its purpose here and here.

‘Cusha’ is our beloved founder female. At a ripe age of 25 years, she has survived the poaching onslaught on her kind. Her name means “to hide” which suits her perfectly. She has excellent mothering abilities, having raised 6 calves, and with her 7th calf at foot. Her secret life with her calves is only captured on trails camera. She is a fierce force, protecting her calves with strength and wisdom.
A collective effort is required to save this critically endangered species from extinction. There are only 6788 Black rhinos left, which is alarming. However, it is a great improvement from around 2000 individuals in the late 1990’s due to fantastic conservation efforts across Africa.
‘Cusha’ and her kind rely on 24/7 conservation efforts to keep them safe from losing their lives to the sick obsession humans have for their horns.
Greed does not just disturb the natural balance of our beautiful planet; it destroys the future of every human. Climate change, global warming and traditional medicine demands are chipping away at our very core of existence.
PLEASE HELP TO SAVE CUSHA, AND HER HABITAT.
#projectrhino does fantastic work to support reserves, both private and public, with protecting their rhinos. If you feel in your heart that you want to help, click here.
