After another wonderful summer with a higher than usual rainfall, the ‘bush pantry’ is full.
Rutting season is in progress, filling the air with the sound of clashing horns and loud snortings. This amazing annual phenomenon will result in a bumper Impala baby boom in late October or early November when the first summer rains fall again.
The crisp windless evenings and clear sunny days, rutting season and the array of nocturnal sounds make May a special time of the year to experience the Zululand bush at White Elephant !
Birding is exceptional this time of the year with an abundance of raptors and water birds along the lake Jozini wetlands.
Fishing, too, is good as the lake’s water level rises and pushes into the reed beds for the fish to spawn and hide their fingerlings from the ferocious tiger fish.
The annual Tourism Indaba Showcase has come and gone and we are very happy with the results. We exhibited on the Moja Media stand in the ICC where Stephanie Loots (Marketing & Reservations), Caroline Roberts (Marketing UK) and Dr Heinz Kohrs (owner member) represented White Elephant. A great deal of interest was shown and we had some excellent meetings. We met many amazing new people and once again saw all the familiar faces that have become our friends in the industry. If you missed us at Indaba, please feel free to email or call us with any questions.
Safari Lodge with its beautiful gardens, superb service and stunning views has once again been awarded a 5 star TGCSA rating for 2013/14.
Black Rhino tracking on foot with our knowledgeable field guides has produced some exhilarating sightings and experiences for many of our more adventurous guests. The Pongola Game Reserve’s ‘Elephanting’ programme continues to be a very special and enlightening activity as we enter our 5th year post elephant bull vasectomies monitoring program of the elephants population on the reserve. For the less adventurous, the hide within short walking distance from safari lodge is just the perfect place to relax, enjoy and observe in absolute peace and tranquillity the birds and animals coming for their daily drink.
