Newsletter August 2010

Hello White Elephant friends,

The Bushveld is in the grip of winter! Fortunately we have had mild winter weather (in contrast to Europe’s icy winter and the rest of South Africa) with only a couple of chilly days that necessitate hot water bottles and steaming hot chocolate. The landscape is dry but beautiful and the sunsets are typically awesome at this time of the year, as is the game viewing with our guides: Adrian, Freedom & Moses.

We have had a busy winter at White Elephant: security and lodge management courses, building and renovating of staff quarters, repairing of water pipes and more water pipes (damaged by thirsty elephants), keeping the hungry warthogs off the lodge lawns.

Newsletter May 2010

Dear White Elephant Subscribers,

May is Indaba month. After 10 years of attending Indaba, White Elephant Safari will not have a stand this year. Instead, we are inviting all travel agents and tour operators for educational site inspections, to meet the owner, Heinz & Debbie Kohrs, and their White Elephant team. White Elephant Safari Lodge & Bush Camp is a 3.5 hour drive (350 km) from Durban. Please book your site inspection with Linda or Wendy at reservations to ensure availability.

Dear Friends of White Elephant,

Greetings from White Elephant Safari. We have had a wonderful summer season blessed with beautiful warm days and good rains (one night recorded 160 mm of rainfall). The bush is a green sea of tall seeding grass and the trees are a luminous green ‘feast’ for our elephant that should see them through this winter.

Newsletter November 2009

 Dear White Elephant Friends,

This year White Elephant Safari Lodge celebrated its 10th birthday. To all our guests, friends, travel agents and tour operators who have supported us over the last 10 years, thank you very much. We hope to have matured like a good red wine to be enjoyed by everyone for the next decade. Thank you especially to all the White Elephant staff for making White Elephant a special destination!

Our birthday ‘gift’ is a spectacular rim-flow swimming pool between the main lodge verandah and the sweeping view of the Lebombo Mountains and Lake Jozini. The new swimming pool perfects the beautiful setting for a relaxing, unique getaway.

White Elephant in the News

The first time I met the owner of the White Elephant Safari Lodge, Heinz Kohrs, I thought he was a member of staff. A very interesting one, who had gleaned a fair bit of knowledge about the area he was working in.
